WDL Discussion / Re: Proposals for future WDL seasons
« on: December 14, 2017, 07:19:53 AM »
Hell yeah, let's do it.

I agree on Cartel. Def in the running for rookie of the year. Cartel has been consistently good, holding his own against top competition on a game by game basis. BST as a whole has played awesome, and I think Rosking has been a top 1 or 2 player this year, and definitely should be in the running for captain of the year. Also I agree all of TKV has played really well. Jake has been awesome again this year. Infer, as stated before, has been great. And even Godlike has made big-time contributions. Should be an excellent matchup.  :gladi8rup

Agreed. Infer has been excellent. He works really well with Jake at mid. This should be a great matchup. Don't have a prediction yet besides that I think it will go at least 5.

#5[DEM] vs #1[BST]:

This semifinals matchup opens on BST's home field map of 23, a repeat of the last week of the regular season. DEM struggled against TKV that week, while BST, after stumbling out of the gate, faired much better. DEM just put up a stellar performance in the quarterfinals on map 32, their home field, and I don't see any reason they won't be flying high there again this week. So for me this matchup comes down to 23. If DEM can put up a better effort than they did in week 5 and/or BST starts slow again and gives up a round, then DEM would have a chance to win this on 23. I think that's their path to victory.

For BST it's simple. If they win the first two rounds, they can either steal one on 32 or wait till 23 comes back around.

DEM has considerable talent on their roster, they're finally practicing, and they're coming off a nice first round win. I think having played 32 competitively once already gives them an edge there. I say DEM will take one of the first two rounds on 23, and then wins both rounds of 32 to complete the upset.

#3[TKV] vs #1[SUC]

SUC and TKV will open their semifinals match on 28. Back in week 4, both teams performed extremely well on this map. SUC ripped off an easy 2-zip win, but it was against a DEM team that had almost no practice that week and had no prior experience on the map. Meanwhile TKV took down the number one team in the league in a hard fought 3 round match that came down to the last minute, so they're battle tested on 28. Which means SUC is going to be in for a challenge.

I think map 08 will be similarly close. It's hard for me to find an edge for either team here, as both have considerable experience on what is one of Doom 2 CTF's most well known maps.

I think we as viewers are in for a treat either way this goes, as I think it's almost a lock to go 5 rounds. In the end, I think SUC may have an edge on 28, and that will bring them the win. Now I need to stop slacking and get back to work. GLHF.

WDL Fall 2017 / Re: WEEK 5 - MAP23 RAGECTF10 [NOV 20 - NOV 26] Discussion

TKV vs DEM
Last week's DEM v SUC matchup was easy to predict because DEM wasn't going to get enough practice on a brand new map and SUC always comes prepared, so game over. This week's map is very familiar to DEM though, and both Rude and Starrk have a history of playing well there. I think TKV will have a battle on their hands, but they're playing at a really high level. I expect a close game, not really sure who will win, but I'll lean slightly towards TKV, 2-1.

HYP vs TPT
Both teams will be going hard in this matchup, because for the loser, THERE IS NO TOMORROW (they will literally be executed  :gladi8rdown). I don't have a real good feel for who will come out on top here, so I'll throw a dart and say HYP eeks out a close 2-1 victory.

SXP vs SUC
Another Bones v Ralphis classic. I think SXP might surprise some people here and take a round from SUC. Bones can hold down mid or D against anyone, and Unknown has shown he can handle himself. We all know what Dranzer can do. I still think that SUC, with their great chemistry, especially now with Souler on board, will take this in the end. 2-1 SUC.

Week 4 (11/17/17): SXP dropped Zoltar to free agency. SXP adds Dranzer from free agency.

SXP vs TPT
I think this will be a close game, but if I had to guess the winner I'd say I'm leaning slightly towards SXP at this point.

SUC vs DEM
SUC in 2.

TKV vs BST
Game of the week. I predict a three rounder that could go either way. I'll say TKV pulls it off, though I wouldn't be surprised at all if BST wins. Basically a pick'em.

HYP vs GPS
